Wait.. A Writer?

My writing life isn't probably not like any of yours. I didn't write my own chapter books in 3rd grade and I definitely don't read 100 books a year. Throughout elementary school, I found the peace in writing, even among the dreadfulness of school. Even though I didn't make my own writing projects at home, (although I wish that was not the case because it would make this post a lot more interesting) I loved working on things for school. Before 5th grade, I had no idea that jotting your thoughts and ideas would come with such a calming feeling. The same feeling that brought me to Mrs. Robins class.
When I think about my proudest moments as a writer, one sticks out in particular. Last winter, I had just finished getting ready for the day and had begun on my walk to the bus stop. When I neared the stop, I noticed my friend Sarah was already there. I walked up to her and we began a conversation. At one point, she asked me if I had checked my email the previous night. I replied with a "No." that had a sense of curiosity behind it. She went on to explain that the winners for the poetry contest we entered had been chosen. I got 3rd place. 3rd! I couldn't believe it. Something that I had written in 10 minutes before bed had seemed prize-worthy to poem professionals. It was an incredible experience and it pushes me to want to become a better writer.
I can't wait to see what this year brings and am so excited that I get to experience with such a wonderful class and teacher.

  2. I'm pretty jazzed--you, Hadley, are a diamond in the rough! I love that you have felt the calming nature of writing. It's pretty wonderful. Whenever I am stressed, I write (usual poems) and it calms me down. I'm excited to see you take off and become a confident writer! You've got this:)
