The Old Bosworth Mansion
Everybody said the old Bosworth mansion was haunted but I never believed them. Once in awhile the porch lights would flicker and you could hear the name Jane get called in a spooky, scary, dark, way. I would wonder why the name Jane. That’s my little sister’s name, she’s 8 years old. There were rumors saying that Old George’s (the owner of Bosworth mansion) wife's name was Jane, but she died in a mysterious fire in 1972. He has never found love again and has been a widow ever since. He won’t talk to anyone about it though, he just says she died in a fire. I don’t think that’s true.
I called my best friend Rosie over to figure out clues and get evidence about Old George. “First off” Rosie said, “We need to get evidence.” So, we hustled over to the old Bosworth mansion very quietly. Old George’s Toyota Century was gone, like it is every week on Mondays from 2:30-3:15. Rosie glanced down at her watch and she gasped, “It’s 3:08.” We only had seven minutes until Old George was going to be home. “That’s not enough time!” We decided that we only have enough time to look at the outside of his mansion, well, only the front yard. Since he had a mansion, we figured he had a pretty big backyard. We scoped out the front yard while jotting down notes on our notebooks we made at girls camp that year. Rosie viewed her watch, “3:14!” We ran off his front porch only to hear the sound of screeching tires. We looked at each other and yelled, “Old George!” I thought of what to do. I pinched Rosie’s arm and pointed into his perfectly cut, round, green, bushes. They were big,0 so I imagined it would fit us. Old George opened his door to his car and scrambled out. He walked right past us, we both sighed in relief. After a few feet of walking past us, he stopped, walked backward and mumbled something about plants and a gardener. Once we heard the sound of a wooden door slam, we booked it out of the bushes across the street to my house.
We both wanted to know why he went somewhere, the same time, each week. So obviously we had to follow him...on our crappy scooters. Luckily he is really slow at driving so we could keep up with him. We just had to wait...3 days. If you know Rosie and I, you know that we are not patient. We just aren’t!
Tuesday came and we had nothing to do. Literally! Rosie got grounded from electronics from talking back to her mom and I got grounded from the kitchen because I ate the last chocolatey, crunchy, perfectly brown, cookie...and then rubbed it in my sister’s face. That’s our two favorite things to do together, baking and playing the game Fred’s Car Shop. So, we decided to use our time wisely and look at the walls. Oh yeah, I forgot...we looked at each other too.
Wednesday came, we did the same thing again. Looking at each other...looking at the walls...and looking at my sister baking delicious cookies in the kitchen while watching t.v. I don’t get it! She can rub stuff in my face yet I can’t in hers? Psh.
Thursday finally came! After six horrendous hours of school, we rushed home. Rosie came to my house. Right as we walked in my mom was on the stairs getting ready to tell me what my chores were for the day. I sighed. “Clean your room, mop the floor, clean the bathroom, water the plants, wash the windows, do your laundry, oh and mop the floors again, make sure the neighbor’s dog is fed and has water.” I sighed again. “ oh I almost forgot…” my mom paused,” Love you.” Yeah right I thought. Rosie pulled me aside and said, “ We won’t have enough time to check out Old George’s mansion! And I am not waiting until Monday to go. We decided that I would lie to my mother (Rosies idea) and tell her I had my chores done. This is going to come back and bite me in the butt I thought.
We crept over to Old Georges house. Right as we walked across the street we realized how dumb of an idea it was. He was just and old senior citizen that was a widow with kids that lived very far away from him. And an old weiner dog named Rusty.
But then I remembered that a few years ago, he took my new, pink, shiny, bike that I got for my birthday and threw it in the dumpster. Someone had to step up to him...and that was me. As we crept up to the house I heard the wood cracking and squeaking. This guy was in need of a house renovation. And I mean it. Rosie wasn’t brave enough to stand up to Old George with me and ran back across the street to my house. I gathered up all of my bravery and rang the doorbell. It was a really creepy sound and sent chills up my spine.I heard footsteps...then all of the sudden...BOOM! A big breeze picked up and my eyes started watering then I looked up and screamed. He was standing right in front of me. I gulped. “Can you please give me back my bike?” He didn’t say anything. He just walked backwards back into the house and slammed the door on me.

I don’t know why we were even trying to figure out his deep and dark secrets. Next time we should probably have a reason to stalk a person and their house.
