My brother and I were walking through the woods one Halloween day when we saw what appeared to be a short-cut. "Let's go that way," my brother said. We started along on the path that led deep into the woods. "Hey, look over there." I heard my brother say as he nodded his head towards an old cottage. There was a sign on the door that said 'KNOCK NO MORE THAN THREE TIMES IF YOU ARE A TRICK-OR-TREATER!' It was the type of cottage that said enter-me-and-die. It was not the type of place you would want to be around. It looked so dark that you wouldn't have thought you could see with a flashlight. It knocked the haunted-house look dead. My brother grabbed my hand, pulled me along side him, and knocked on the door. He also happened to see the sign and thought it would be funny to knock four times, instead of three. That was a mistake he would never make again.
Before us, stood a woman who was about five foot and a bit plump. She was wearing a witch costume, which happened to look more natural than it should. She gave us an evil smirk before yelling "It said to knock only three times if you were trick or treating!" I flinched at her loud tone. She pulled a lever on the left side of the wall and the ground immediately fell open and my brother and I fell down into a big pit of nowhere. I had no idea where we were. All I knew was that it wasn't a soft landing. I had landed on my tush, but my brother landed on his back.
"You alright?" I asked my brother before standing up to lend him a hand. He grabs my hand and heaves himself up. "Yeah. I'm okay." He says while taking a glance around us. There was nothing in here. You couldn't see anything. It was almost like the ceiling, floor, and walls were all painted black. We were the only visible things in this room. It was like an illusion. Someone had to have built this house, so there's got to be some sort of logic to it. There would be no way to get out of a room without a door. Unless they climbed out with a ladder but with how much space divides the ceiling from the floor I find that highly unlikely. "Maybe we should look for a door or something?" I ask my brother. "I would be surprised if we found one, but I don't seem to have any other ideas that sound better than that one." My brother responded.
We searched for a door, or even a little box sized exit, for a while, we hadn't got any luck yet. A little while later I heard my brother calling me, "Come here, I think I found something." I walked over to him to see him looking at a outline of a square. I stuck my hand on the wall and traced the square with my fingers to make sure it wasn't just a painted square. There was definitely something there. I placed both my hands on the square. I slowly pushed it away from me. I was surprised to see that it was moving. In a little while I had been able to push it out of the wall. I looked through it to see if the coast was clear. It was, so my brother went out first while I followed behind. We got through and discovered some stairs. We walked up them to find where the kitchen was. We saw her mixing something with a large ladle in a cauldron. We slowly peeked around the kitchen and caught a glimpse of the front door. There would be no way to get out without her noticing us.
All of a sudden I saw a bright light. I started to shake, similar to how I shake when I have to be in front of a large crowd. Was she killing us? Did she poison us? A few minutes later I saw my mom and dad they were comforting me telling me to calm down. I saw my brother too. He was in his Halloween costume. I looked down at my costume and saw that I was still dressed in my vampire costume. What happened? "Honey, are you there?" I heard my mother calling to me with worry rattling her voice. "What happened?" I ask. "You were stepping onto a lady's porch when you tripped over the step and fell down and cracked your head open. Your brother knocked on the door and asked if the lady would call the ambulance. She did and came with them along with your brother. We were called by the hospital a little while later. Now you're here." She said with tears rimming her eyes. "Oh. Where's the lady, did she leave?" I asked wanting to thank her for calling an ambulance. "She left when we got here." Mom replied. An hour later we finally got permission to go. When we got to the check out I looked out the window and saw a glimpse of the witch lady. In the blink of an eye she was gone.
Scary Cottages & Creepy Witches (Unrevised)
My brother and I were walking through the woods one Halloween day when we saw what appeared to be a short-cut. "Let's go that way," my brother said. We started along on the path that led deep into the woods. "Hey, look over there." I heard my brother say as he pointed towards an old cottage. There was a sign on the door that said 'Knock no more than three times if you are a child here for candy.' It was the type of cottage that said enter-me-and-die. It was not the type of place you would want to be around. It looked dark. It was so dark that you couldn't see a glimpse of light with a lantern in hand. It knocked the haunted house look dead. My brother thought it was just a Halloween decoration but if there is one thing I can tell you, it was far from any Halloween decoration. We started walking over there. My brother stepped onto the porch, making a huge creaking noise. He stepped up to the door and knocked four times. The door swung open almost immediately.
There stood a woman with a witch costume on who was about five foot and was quite plump. She gave us an evil smirk before saying "It said to knock only three times if you were trick or treating!" I flinched at her loud tone. She pulled a lever on the left side of the wall and the ground immediately fell open and my brother and I fell down into nowhere. I had no idea where we were. You couldn't see anything. It was funny how I could see my brother like there was light in here. We were the only visible things in this room. It was like an illusion. Maybe all the walls and floors are painted black. Someone had to have built this house, so there's got to be some sort of logic to it. There would be no way to get out of a room without a door. I saw my brother too. He was in his Halloween costume. I looked down at my costume and saw that I was still in my costume too. What happened? "Honey, are you there?" An hour later we finally got to leave. When we got to the check out I looked out the window and saw a glimpse of the witch lady. Before I could look again she was gone.
