My Trip to San Diego

Imagine the smell of fresh, cold, salty water and the warm sun against your back. You can feel the hot sand in your toes and everything is perfect. That’s what is feels like at the beach in San Diego. My family and I go to the beach every year and we all have so much fun. When my family goes it is always my grandma, grandpa, cousins, aunts and uncles. It’s a big group. Let’s start at the very beginning when I had to drive in the car with all my siblings for 6 hours.

As soon as it was Tuesday, my dad came in at 4:00 in the morning and woke me up. I was so tired. I got up, went to the bathroom, and then went and got in the car. It was pitch black outside and I couldn’t see anything. Driving to San Diego is the longest road trip I have been on. Being with your siblings in a car and being squished together is not my favorite thing. After a couple of hours the sun came up and it was so pretty. A couple of hours after that, we were in San Diego at the beach.
Later that day we got to the beach. We always rent a beach house. We were driving around for about a half hour when we finally found our beach house. My grandma and grandpa were already there. We got all our stuff, brought it inside, and started unpacking. It took me an hour to get all my stuff out of the car and into the house. I had to share a room with my older sister and my younger sister. It was so crowded in that the tiny little room we were in. I don’t know how we all fit into it. After we unpacked and ate food, we got our swimsuits on and when down the beach.

It was so warm outside and the smell of the ocean was so refreshing. My older sister and I were the first ones to get in the water. I remember the feeling of the water when I first got in. It was so cold, but the sand underneath my feet was warm and squishy. I went out into the water really far and went under. I was freezing! I got up, walked back to where my family was sitting, and got a towel and wrapped it around me as fast as I could. It was about 2:30 when we went back to the beach house and got lunch. When we went inside my aunt, uncle, and cousins were there. I was so happy to see them. We ate lunch and then went to the shops that were down the street. We shopped around for awhile but didn’t buy anything. After that we went to the beach house and got ready for dinner. We went and ate at the Cheesecake Factory. After we ate we went back to the beach house and got ready for bed.

The next morning I got up around 7:00 and went and sat on the deck outside. I looked out at the ocean and it was the coolest thing ever. There were three dolphins jumping out of the water really close to the shore. One of them was a baby and it was so tiny and cute. They started to swim out into the ocean really far and disappeared out of sight. I remember I kept looking to see if I could see the dolphins, but I couldn’t. It was so cool to see them jumping and swimming.

All in all, we only stayed one more day and then came home. Even though we were there for a short time, I had so much fun. The drive home was so long and boring.  When we got home it was super late at night. I was so tired and I don’t know how I stayed awake the whole drive home. In a nutshell, favorite part of the trip was seeing the dolphins jump and swimming in the water.

  1. Tes, what a great job! You used so many descriptive words that I felt like I was there with you. It sounded like a really fun trip! What would it look like if you added in more similes and metaphors? Your fantastic three in the fourth paragraph was great! Keep up the good work!

  2. First thing: Cheesecake Factory,, YUM!! You wrote everything so well that I could see everything that was happening. What if at the end after the last sentence, you added more detail so it doesnt end with dolphins?? Good job!

  3. Amazing! I loved how you were so descriptive in your writing. How about trying to emphasize "I don't know how we all fit into it." with parentheses other than that it looked great! Keep up the great work!:)
