Personal Protagonist

A person I look up to (more and more) is Someone who is always just cool with whatever problem or plan presents itself. It is almost as if he just explodes outward like a snowball to tackle whatever arrives at his doorstep. That is one of the characteristics I value. It is one of the things that I want to apply in my own life. I’m writing about a person that I admire and want to be like, no matter what the situation. If there is a big problem and no one wants to fix it, he’ll do it. Even if we complain and give him a hard time about something, he pushes through it. If he has something planned out and it turns out to be a flop, he just preservers with it, with a smile and makes the people around him happy. He has great jokes, tells stories with pizzazz and humor, and is someone you’d want to be around. Well this person that I value so much is my Dad.
To begin with, if we make a big mess and/or ruin or destroy something, he faces it with a smile and goes on and starts cleaning, even if it is a terrible mess or situation to be in. A while back when my Dad was bishop, he received word of a horrible stink that smelled like a terrible sewage drainer had broken. That was coming from the bathroom. So, my Dad went in he saw a terrible mess of waste matter. (Probably shouldn’t describe this part.) So as soon as he saw this he knew what was needed. So he cleaned the mess that no one even wanted to go near. But the most amazing thing was that he did not have a single rude or irritated thought. The only thoughts that he did have were of pity and sympathy for that poor person that couldn’t make it to the Toilet. and how and how embarrassed they must have felt. My Dad didn’t have one single complaint. That was one of the things that I admire most. No matter  how bad things turned out,the only emotions he felt were pity and sympathy, (It was on a sunday at church). I hope that if I’m faced with the same or similar problem I can do the same thing.
Second, even when faced with tough situations and other people just make it harder by whining and complaining (I’m not giving any names here), he just smiles and tells us to stop being an antagonist. He’s a person that if you persist, he just calmly sorts through it. I know that there have been several occasions where someone whines which starts a chain reactions and sometimes my dad is the one that has to stop it. He doesn’t just tell us to shut our mouths. He gets to the bottom of things and asks us what we can do to stop this from happening again. Next when we complain about something that he has to take down because it is taking up space and people are coming over, he calmly tells us the reason and in the end we are seeing sense :). Also when someone he is counting on falls through, he makes do with what he has and fixes it. There, is another valuable trait (for me at least). Well for me if have people that complain in my life I’m glad that I have someone that I can remind myself to be like.
Third when he has something all ready for us to use, and it is all planned out then it turns out that we can’t do it or that it won’t work be cause something happened he is adaptable, even when it falls through, he has shown me that no matter what happens you need to be able to keep going and make a extra plan. This makes the people around him comfortable with whatever happens to a situation. Plus he acknowledges it and makes a joke about it, and laughs. That ultimately shows me that even when something that I spent a long time on doesn’t always work, that you should be able to just push through it and not make it your center. Just fix the problem, see what you did wrong and make it right, and make others comfortable (usually with humor :) So all in all, with that knowledge of flexibility, I hope that I can dodge any of the problems that life flings my way with the speed that it’s whipping arm is capable of.
So at last, do you see why I wrote about my dad? Why he is the one that I look up to and admire? well now I hope you do. Because of the easiness that he does things. Whether it is a terrible problem with a tough situation he just goes on and does it, or if that situation is increased by 100 times because someone is being a drag to everyone, even if he has this great plan all set out, and it falls through, because someone or something didn’t work out. Well, when my dad is faced with those situations he smiles all the way through them. He tells of things with humor and suspense, and he is kind and loving no matter what. So in a nutshell you now know why my dad is my hero.

  1. Woah!! By the way you wrote the essay I felt like I could really see what was happening in the story, even though I don't know your dad... What would it sound like if you added more metaphors?? See ya in class!

  3. Oncore! Oncore! (or whatever that weird name is to tell someone to do it again that no one ever uses anymore) Oncore! That was a great story! I liked how you told us about his many personalities and what he has done! How about trying to put in more details about how he helped you solve your problems? See ya later!

  4. Good job Jacob. You used transitions really well, they helped me know when you were moving on. How about not speaking to the reader quite as much?

  6. That was amazing Jacob, I loved the subtle humour and unique description. But one of your strengths became a little redundant because you spoke to the reader a little too much; but I know you will improve and have an amazing story.
